The Friends
University women’s basketball team opened its season by traveling to Point
Lookout, Mo., where the Falcons participated in a tournament hosted by College
of the Ozarks.
Friday night the
Falcons faced John Brown University where they fell short of a victory 56-65.
Both Stacie Bell and Jerae Whitney had 10 points. Kristin Welk, Jenna Kokojan and Jenny Urban
followed closely with 8 points each.
Saturday the
Falcons again fell short as they battled it out with the host team, College of
the Ozarks. Though the Falcons fought
hard, they lost by just 7 points, 63-70.
Scoring for the Falcons was Bell with 16 and Brown with 13, followed by
Welk, Kokojan and Urban with 8 a piece. Bell, a point guard, also had 6 assists
against College of the Ozarks and represented Friends by being named to the
All-Classic Team.
This past weekend,
on Nov. 14-15, the Falcons traveled to Southwestern College in Winfield for the
Second Annual Tara Patterson Classic. The Falcons opened the weekend against
Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Friday night where they earned their
first victory of the season 63-56. Welk
led the Falcons with 17 points and 6 rebounds.
Urban followed suit by coming off the bench to add 13 points and 6
rebounds. Bell and Brown both hit double
digits with 11 and 10 points.
On Saturday the
Falcons were not as successful losing to Newman University 58-69. The Falcons had the lead at half 34-27 but
the Newman Jets came out after the break with intensity that the Falcons could
not match. Leading scorers for the
Falcons were Bell with 14, Urban with 10, Causey with 9, Brown, a guard,
grabbed 11 boards, and represented her team well by being the only player from
Friends University to be named to the Tara Patterson All-Classic Team.
This Friday and
Saturday, November 21-22, the Falcons will take on the William Jewell Cardinals
in Liberty, Missouri for the annual William Jewell Classic.
