Friends University student Rachel Baker is a junior biology major and a person with long term goals.

These goals include earning a master's degree and becoming a physician’s assistant.  Upon completing these goals there is the possibility of going to a seminary or Bible school.  From there Baker plans to become involved in medical missions.

“In third world countries, things like health care facilities and health care professionals are hard to come by and especially at good prices,” Baker said. “It’s been kind of a driving force for me to look into medical missions.”

Baker is currently involved with planning a mission trip to the Ukraine.  The trip will assist those wishing to learn English by way of drama.

On campus Baker also stays busy.  She is in Friends Concert Choir, is on the campus ministries team, and is one of the presidents of the Medical Club.

“I focus on interactive school activities,” Baker said of her role in the Medical Club.

The medical club tries to visit three first grade classes a semester and this year it will show the students how the digestive system works and what it looks like.

Baker also took part in caroling to senior citizens and visiting children in a hospital during the holidays as part of her medical club activities.

Medical Club sponsor Dr. Turla said, “People like being around her because she’s so upbeat.”
