“Real World or Bust” is the theme for Friends University’s 2008 senior art show. Many seniors are taking the final steps in their art or communications degree by participating in this show.
“This show is very exciting because this is the first time a lot of us can show our pieces together,” said Molly Donham, a senior who designed the art show flier this year.
Students will show close to 10 pieces each, including photography, sculpture, ceramics and paintings.
This is not the first show for many seniors. Donham, Grace Langness and Tarah Spencer have all shown together in the Riney Fine Arts Center.
“I have been working on my pieces in my head for months, physically in the last three to four weeks. It takes me about seven to 10 hours for each painting,” said Donham.
This art show is different from the others for Donham. Growing year by year, show by show, she has admitted to using herself and personal issues for the topic of this year’s art.
“This series is very, very personal. I have never used myself or issues that I was experiencing for art before, but I decided to use those feelings as a topic, which was a huge step for me,” said Donham.
The Senior Art Show runs Nov. 24-29 at Lawrence Photo’s Redline Gallery, 401 E. Douglas Ave., No. 100. A reception is set for 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 28 and refreshments will be served.
“Most work is for sale,” Donham said. “It is up to the student to decide if their work will be priced for sentimental reasons. Many may show work that will not be for sale.”
Along with Donham, Langness and Spencer, other seniors exhibiting work are Abby Hutson, Adam Heery, Alisha Hunt, CJ McClellan, Emily Langness, Eric Ford, Kerry Burrow, Lauren Pohlenz and Linda Hillier.
