Look at online resources:

I went careerbuilder.com and typed in “summer job” and came up with eight jobs perfect for the summer. These jobs included full- and part-time positions the YMCA and the Wichita Wingnuts. Be prepared to give out your e-mail. Most of these career-finding Web sites will make fill you out a registration form.

Pick a job for you major:

Finding a place of employment that relates to your major gives you a chance to network. It also reassures you that in you are in the correct line of work.

For the art or design major: Find a job at an arts and craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. Try to get a position framing art. You may not get to spend your summer painting or sketching, but these work places are inspirational and friendly.

For the business or accounting major: Find a job as a bank teller. Quite a few business and accounting majors end up at a bank straight out of college. Why not start now? Learn to handle money efficiently while developing people skills.

For the education major: Find a job as camp counselor. If you can handle teaching little rug rats how to make friendship bracelets, you can teach anything.

Don’t forget about internships:

Most Friends majors are required to complete an internship before they can graduate. Summer is the perfect time to get these out of the way. Talk to your adviser about summer internships. The campus and career transition office is a great resource to help you land an internship. They can help with everything from writing your resume to interview etiquette.
