Online registration went well for first run-through

Dear Crimson Chronicle Editor,

I recently read your article on online registration that started this spring to register for next fall.

I was shocked to see that the article placed no focus on the positive effects of online registration. The majority of the student body had no problem registering online for their classes next semester. Online registration is overwhelmingly easier than registering in person. Self-Service Banner is very user friendly and was the easiest alternative to registration. Students who had problems were in the minority, and most students who did not appreciate online registration were simply too lazy to do it themselves. Students did not want to take the responsibility upon themselves to register online and refused to accept the changes in registration. Online registration is here to stay and students have to accept the fact. Also, the students who complained about the many problems they had also did not take into account this is the first semester of online reigstration. Problems that occurred during registration were not easily forseen by the women in the registrar's office. Students were always welcome to come into the office and discuss their problems with the registrar and have them walked through the online registration process. The ladies in the registrar's office were always open and willing to help the students who may have not used Self-Service Banner before the registration opened. Students had not taken their own responsibility to use Self-Service Banner beforehand to print off schedules, check registration status, holds, and many other options the program offers. If Friends University students were more willing to accept the change and stop complaining about the new way of online registration, the process would have gone much smoother.

Online registration is an extremely fast and easy way to register for classes, removing a lot of steps and processes required for person to person registration. Students need to stop focusing on the few negative problems of a first run experience, and embrace the new wave of technology Friends University is embracing.

Thank you for your time and as a journalist, I hope you take the time to see both sides of the issue.

Sincerely,

Allison McElroy, Happily Registered Student
