On April 4, the Falcons had an abrupt stop in their 31 game winning streak when the Southwestern Moundbuilders proved to be more dominant, winning a double header 10-6 in the first game and 6-5 in the second.
The Falcons are 35-6 overall and remain in first place in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The team pulled in wins of 9-0 in both games against Ottawa University April 20.
The end of the long road to the third straight league title and a second straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament is now in sight.
“We want to win a national championship,” said Head Coach Tony Segovia.
Megan VinZant, senior shortstop, leads the league in batting average, hits, RBI, runs, doubles, and is third in home runs with nine.
Nicole Bauer, junior, leads the league in home runs with 12.
“There is not one member of this program or supporter that has any doubt that we will take care of business the rest of the way through conference and the conference tournament,” said VinZant.
Although the Falcons fell short in their winning streak, VinZant thinks it might have helped them regain focus.
“Although it is tough to let go of that game it may be a blessing in disguise because not one team will be taken for granted,” she said.
The Falcon women will now focus on the Hall of Fame Stadium Tournament this weekend, April 24-25.
The KCAC Tournament starts April 30 and continues May 1.
