Falcons build momentum for conference play

By Nick Wilczynski, senior

The Falcon softball team delivered a thumping to both Langston University and York College this weekend at the Sterling College Tournament.

In game one, the Falcons were firing on all cylinders, as they put up 11 runs in the first inning. They then continued their success by scoring 4 in the second and 3 in the fifth and ended up with a final score of 19-4.

Game two carried a similar result ending in the fifth because of a “mercy rule” with a final of 14-4.

“This is just what we needed,” said junior pitcher Kelsey Porter. “We had a rough start to our spring break, but we finished it right.”

The Falcons traveled to Northwood University and Southern Nazarene over spring break and only came away with one win, while losing three.

“I am not worried about this at all,” said junior outfielder Amy Martinez, who is leading the team with 17 hits and is also leading the team in stolen bases and RBI’s.

“As soon as we fix the little things and finish ball games, we will be a very tough team to beat.”

With a record of 11-6, the Falcons will have their work cut out for them as conference play starts at 4 p.m. today at McPherson College.
