Falcons plays well against first conference opponents

By Nick Wilczynski, senior

In the first game of their double header, the Falcons jumped all over the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes with a score of 9-1.

The Falcons jumped ahead in the game 1-0 in the first with a solo homerun by Nina Manser. It took the team three innings to jump back on the board as they exploded in the fourth and fifth by putting up eight runs and putting the mercy rule in effect. The rule states that the game will be over if one team is leading the other by eight runs after the fifth inning.

Leading the way in Game 1 was Whitney Sullivan who went 2 for 3 with a single and a double.

Along with their nine hits, junior Cara Russell threw five innings allowing only five hits and striking out five, while giving up one run.

“We struggled early against an above average pitcher, but once we settled down and got into a rhythm as a whole, there was no stopping us,” said junior DH Whitney Sullivan.

In Game 2 the Falcons were led by junior pitcher Kelsey Porter as she threw five innings and allowed only seven hits and struck out six batters in a 10-0 rout.

Sullivan again had a solid performance as she went 2 for 3 with two doubles.

Along with Sullivan, Nicole Bauer went 1 for 2 with a three-run homerun and racked up four RBIs, and Nina Manser went 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

The Falcons are now 15–8 with a conference record of 5–1. Their next games will be at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. April 9 at McPherson College.
