Wal-Mart partners with Campus Ministries, donates to elementary school
By Jerrica Croxson, senior.

Friends University students’ charitable work for Colvin Elementary School generated a donation of more than $1,500 in school supplies from Wal-Mart.

Friends University Campus Ministries collected donations from students in a donation box at Cornerstone, its weekly student gathering. The donations provided $150 in school supplies for the third graders, said Carrie Mills, Campus Ministries assistant director.

Wal-Mart heard about the project and donated school supplies including notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, rulers, magnets and birthday party supplies to give to Colvin Elementary.

This outreach has Campus Ministries leaders excited for what they can accomplish through their partnership with the elementary school. Mills said Campus Ministries hopes to recruit Friends University student volunteers to work with the third-grade classes through tutoring, eating lunch with the kids and playing with them at recess. Students can stop by the Campus Ministry offices on the second floor of Davis Administration Building to sign up and get involved.
